The idea for this show, like most things NAKED HIGHWAY, was very spontaneous and haphazardly.  There had already been a slew of fan gathering in Atlanta, Boston, France and the UK to name a few, but none in NYC.  A bunch of SIOUXSIE fans from the BANSHEES list and CREATURES board and I were going to get together at a bar in the EAST VILLAGE or

CHELSEA and just piss on each other all night.  Immediately, the gears were turning.  I thought, "Fuck no! It's the 25th Anniversary of the BANSHEES, let's go all out!"

A call to my pal JULIAN @ PRIMAL DIGITAL…a tribute night to SIOUXSIE…bands, liquor, DJs.  SIOUXNYC was born.  My good friend of nearly 10 years AILEEN BROPHY got into the act, recruiting the DJs and bands, and handling guitar duties on the HIGHWAY'S set.

BUDGIE relayed his fondest wishes to the attendees of SIOUXNYC (via THE CREATURES web site) by quoting the late FRANCIS BACON..."Champagne for my true friends and true pain for my sham friends!"

The night was massive.  It was like a movie. DJs ADAM, EVA and NANCY kept the crowd moving to a montage of SIOUXSIE videos and live clips.  The bands took the stage a bit late on account of the POLICE showing up.  Apparently, someone called and told them that there were animal sacrifices taking place!  JULIAN used his suave persuasive ways to avert what could have been a nasty situation.  Boys and girls, loud music, sex, liquor and police.  Legendary.

PD house band THE COGS opened with "The Passenger" and an original funk tune "What Would Siouxsie Sioux Do?"  Event organizers NAKED HIGHWAY had the longest set of the night, including electro-industrial covers of "Metal Postcard" and "Voodoo Dolly," and closing with a shocking drum 'n' bass version of "Icon."  GEORGE ALLEY was next with a medley of THE DOORS' "The End", the BANSHEES' "Take Me Back" and the theme from SHE-RA.  THE SWIMMING HORSES closed the night with their "post-no wave" covers including "Nightshift" and an onstage free-for-all of "Killing Jar."  CHRIS AKA SLIMCEA left with the prize from the look-alike contest…a mint 1979 import gatefold edition of "Join Hands." Well-deserved, considering that he drove all the way from Washington DC to attend!

DID YOU KNOW?:  RAUL OF THE COGS WAS ORGINALLY GOING TO PERFORM A MEDLEY OF "SPELLBOUND" AND "ARABIAN KNIGHTS" BUT ENDED UP PERFORMING A COMPLETELY IMPROVISED SET!  NAKED HIGHWAY ALSO HAD "MISS THE GIRL" AS PART OF THEIR SET BUT IT WAS AXED THE DAY BEFORE AS SY AND AILEEN COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING THROUGHOUT.  SY HAD ALSO PROGRAMMED AN ELECTRONIC DISTORTION-HEAVY VERSION OF "BUT NOT THEM" WHICH HAS NOW EVOLVED INTO A NEW NAKED HIGHWAY SONG!

THX TO EVERYONE WHO CAME. THX TO EVERYONE WHO PERFORMED.  THX TO PETER AND JOHN. THX MOST OF ALL TO AILEEN AND JULIAN WITHOUT WHOM THIS WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. THX TO BUDGIE FOR CHAMPAGNE!

GOOD LUCK TO THE KIDS DOING THE LA GATHERING!
